Liberation Yoga is the community that has formed around the yoga, meditation, and kirtan (chanting) groups at our Urban Retreat Center.
Sometimes we describe this community using the word “Sangha”, from the Buddhist tradition, refers to a collective of dedicated practitioners that mutually support each other’s journeys with acceptance and compassion.
Our community consists of yoga teachers, meditation teachers, chant leaders, therapists, artists, musicians, healers, students, and everyone who participates in their offerings. All are welcome.
To some, these practices may seem esoteric and outside the scope of a community mental health organization. But a multitude of studies have shown that yoga, meditation, chanting, and similar mindfulness practices can have a profound and lasting effect on our mental health and well-being. These are part of a broader spectrum of somatic therapies that can be used independently or in conjunction with more traditional Cognitive Behavioral or Analytical therapies. Reminding us that the body, mind, and spirit are all connected, these ancient techniques from the East are now on the cutting edge of treatment in the West.
For many in our community these practices have been doorways to transformative experiences – sacred tools for Healing Growth and Freedom.
Our core offerings are Tuesday Liberation Yoga, Wednesday Community Kirtan and Thursday Meditation Class (“Heart Camp”), all at the Urban Retreat Center. In addition we offer a variety of other classes, workshops, events and outings.
All Liberation Yoga groups and gatherings are offered on a donation basis. No one is ever turned away for lack of funds. All are welcome.
You can find the classes and groups on our Upcoming Events calendar.
