Your Body, Your Lover.
August 17 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 2:00pm on Friday, repeating indefinitely
Class Description: Many of us feel we need more love in our lives. Even people with supportive friends and family sometimes yearn for more love.
The good news is that limitless love is as near as our own bodies. This may sound hard to believe, but the human body evolved over millions of years to support our lives. What could be more loving than such dedicated support?
In this class we will use a combination of basic information about the body, guided mindfulness, and gentle movement to grow more intimate with our living forms. We’ll discover that by meeting our bodies with interest, compassion, appreciation, and nurturance, we can awaken to the infinite love within life.
About the Teacher: As a troubled youth in a chaotic family, Will found solace in the outdoors. During a solo hike of the John Muir Trail at age sixteen, he connected with a sense of the sacred in Nature. Abandoning the path of delinquency, he went on to higher education in biology and eventually medicine. When he was only forty-one, severe neck arthritis forced him to leave his surgical career. In the years that followed, he struggled with grief, depression, and anxiety, all compounded by the residue of early life trauma.
As Will grappled with physical and mental health issues, he turned first to conventional medicine and psychiatry, but he did not find relief. He gradually switched directions and made progress using yoga and meditation. He grew to understand the lack of mystery, mindfulness, and body-compassion in biomedicine as a major obstacle to healing. As he deepened his focus on mindfulness and spiritual practice, Will began teaching anatomy and physiology at a yoga institute. He worked out ways of using accurate science to encourage body-appreciation and self-understanding.
He eventually realized that his love of biology had always helped him make sense out of life while connecting him with forces that are ancient, pervasive, and ultimately mysterious.
Understanding this awakened him to his true calling: to help us discover the stillness, grandeur, and sweetness of Nature within our own bodies.
